Abbreviations in transport
ZEISE CODES helps users quickly and reliably classify abbreviations and technical terms from the transport sector.
As a multilingual reference tool, the platform combines codes, abbreviations and terminology from rail, aviation and related fields, including operating points and stations, country and currency codes, organisations and companies, transport lines, and other standardised identifiers used in Europe and partly in international contexts. Depending on the entry, additional context is available beyond the basic meaning, such as category assignment, multilingual naming, related terms, historical context like foundation, renaming or closure, successor relations, and further sources for in-depth research.
The interface is intentionally simple: the category filter can narrow results to relevant entries only. The search field and magnifier icon support targeted searches for terms, abbreviations or names. The dice icon opens a random result in the optionally selected category and helps discover new entries when starting without a specific search term. This makes ZEISE CODES suitable for both quick lookups and open, exploratory research.
Usage notes
Search with parameters
The search works with abbreviations, spelled-out terms and names. You can also narrow results via the category filter to reach the relevant topic area faster.
For flexible search patterns, the asterisk * is supported as a wildcard. Examples: db* for entries starting with “db”, *bahn for endings in “bahn”, or *rail* for matches containing the term anywhere.
The more specific your search term, the more precise the result list. If you want to start without a fixed term, you can use the dice icon to open a random result and continue exploring related entries from there.
Abbreviation not found?
Permissions can be assigned on two levels: full event access or individual file access. This allows project teams to share complete sets where needed, while still enabling selective release for specific assets.
For users with partial access, events remain visible so context is preserved, but only approved files are shown inside the media view.
